Crab Meat and Arugula Salad


  • 450g white meat from 4-5 fresh dressed crabs

  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped

  • 1 small red (bell) pepper, seeded and finely chopped

  • 30ml/ 2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander

  • 30ml/ 2 tbsp drained capers

  • Tabasco sauce, to taste

  • Juice of 2 lemons

  • Salt and ground black pepper

  • Lemon rind strips, to garnish

For the Arugula Salad:

  • 40g rocket leaves

  • 15ml/ 1 tbsp fresh lime juice

  • 30ml/ 2 tbsp sunflower oil


  1. Place the cleaned crabs in a steamer. Steam for 20-25 minutes or until the crabs become bright red.

  2. Remove the meat from crab and place in a salad bowl.

  3. Add in onion, red pepper, caper and coriander.

  4. Add in lemon juice and a little bit lemon rind.

  5. Toss to mix.

  6. Add in few drops of Tabasco sauce to taste. Season with salt and pepper.

  7. Well mix the lemon juice and sunflower oil in a small sauce bowl, mix evenly.

  8. Arrange the arugula leaves among 4 serving plates. Pour over the mixed lemon juice and sunflower oil.

  9. Spoon over the crab salad to the top of arugula leaves and garnish with some lemon rind.
