Beef Bagel Sandwich


  • 1/4 cup sliced dried tomatoes (not oil-packed)

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil

  • 1 small red onion, sliced

  • 12 ounces boneless beef top sirloin steak, cut about 3/4 inch thick

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt

  • 1/2 cup chopped onion (1 medium)

  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard

  • 2 teaspoon light mayonnaise

  • 2 cup mixed spring salad greens or finely shredded romaine lettuce

  • 4 small whole wheat bagels, split and toasted


  1. Preheat broiler.

  2. Place dried tomatoes in a small bowl and add enough water to cover.

  3. Place the tomatoes into Microwave, adjust to high heat, heat the tomatoes for 1 minutes. Let the tomatoes stand for another 15 minutes.

  4. Meanwhile, trim the extra fat from meat, then sprinkle with black papper and garlic salt.

  5. Brush oil on the red onion slices.

  6. Arrange meat and onion slices on a unheated grill of boiler pan. Broil at 3 to 4 inches from the heat (145ºF) about 12 to 15 minutes for medium rare, or until desired doneness. Turning once halfway broiling.

  7. Transfer meat to a cutting board. Slice to bite size.

  8. Drain and finely chop the tomatoes.

  9. For the salad greens, combine the chopped tomatoes, onion slices, mustard and mayonnaise in a small bowl.

  10. To serve, top the bagel bottom with salad, follow by meat, add another layer of salad and cover with bagel top.
