Banana Smoothie With Chocolate Sauce



For Smoothie

  • 3 ripe bananas

  • 200ml/7fl oz/ scant 1 cup natural (plain) yogurt

  • 30ml/ 12fl oz/ 1 1/2 cup orange juice

  • 30ml/ 2 tbsp mild honey

  • some ice cubes (crushed)

For Hot Chocolate Sauce

  • 170g/ 6oz plain (semisweet) chocolate with more than 60% cocoa solids

  • 60ml/ 4 tbsp water

  • 10ml/ 1/1.5oz/ half tbsp butter

  • 15ml/ 1 tbsp golden (light corn) syrup


  1. Peel and cut the bananas, mash with a fork.

  2. For the chocolate sauce, break up the chocolate and place in a bowl over a pan of simmering water. Leave for 10 minutes until chocolate is melted, then add in water, syrup and butter and stir until smooth.

  3. Put all the smoothie ingredients in a food processor or blender, blend until smooth.

  4. Pour the smoothie into a large tall glass, pour the chocolate sauce from a high. The sauce will then swirl around the glass and give a marbled effect.

Pouring chocolate sauce slowly, so that the chocolate sauce could thickens when it contact with the cold smoothies.
